History

The Gang-Kou Ci-Ji Temple, also known as the temple by the harbor, evolved at the command of the port's chairman, President Lin Xiuzhu. Born poor and with no higher education, the chairman did not believe in Buddha at first. However, over years of physical and psychological conflict and grief, with doctors from far and wide unable to remedy the chariman's pain, Lin Xiuzhu turned to the guidance of Buddha. This happened when the man was at the age of seventy-five, which was in AD 1986. Thus, he converted to the religion. To demonstrate his subscription, he ordered the contruction of a temple by the harbor, which came to be known officially as Gang-Kou Ci-Ji Temple. Inspired by dieties like the Earth God, the temple was a platform was fine craftmanship and scenic beauty. 

港口慈濟宮沿革源自主委(林秀珠)女士。林秀珠出身貧苦，未受高等教育，而且生性不信神佛，然而多年來，因為身心違和，遍訪名醫無效，歷經病痛煎熬，最後得到神佛指引，必頇皈依觀世音菩薩，天上聖母及瑤池金母建廟設宮，間接濟助眾生，始可免除本身災難。早期時常在恍惚夢見身在與神佛。後有緣應朋友相邀同遊嘉義縣東石鄉笨港港口宮，得於此宮景像與以往夢中所見無異，花蓮慈惠堂瑤池金母。始而觸景感悟、仰慕，後經聖母顯靈示意，務頇導照指示建廟塑身，濟渡眾生，並經聖母二次指示，覓得良材巧匠，雕刻聖像成功。本宮主祀天上聖母於七十五年(西元1987年)臘月初六，在祖廟笨港港口宮，完成開光點眼儀式留宮奉祀一月，始於七十六年(西元1988年)端月初六日，回鑾本宮威鎮孚護，施於當月十八日開始濟世解厄應信徒實需，經天上聖母聖示擇定現址鳩工建廟，經議定於八十年辛未年(西元1991年)梅月動土奠基，鳩宮庀材興建，夜以繼日而能神速竣工，謹詹於同年葭月十一日舉行入火安座儀式，民國八十二年癸酉年(西元1993)啟建三朝祈安清醮大典。
